THE ROSE by Carolina Casanova
A Raw Memoir of Love, Friendship, and Self-Discovery
It began with my neighbour, who filled her pockets with stones, and walked into the sea to end her life when I was twenty-one. That same day, my mother gave me a silver ring shaped like a rose. Ever since, it has reminded me to spread my changes in love to never become as lonely as Henriette.
The Rose is an intoxicating blend of sensual memory, untamed emotion, and lyrical confession.
A neighbour’s suicide. Too many lovers to remember their names. A killing in self-defence. Fragments that seduce, haunt, and awaken. It moves between fearless honesty and quiet mystery.
It isn’t perfect. It’s powerful. It isn’t polished. It’s alive. And once you begin reading, something inside you may begin remembering too.

How The Rose by Carolina Casanova came into this world
I started writing The Rose in 2009. As a young single mother I would spend hours at end in the evenings writing these funny and crazy memoirs. I would post the poems on Hyves (FB in NL at that time) about Jan the Policemen. People would follow my stories and some would congratulate me on having a boyfriend.
My response would be, would I write on Hyves about my Boyfriends penis? He’s my imaginary boyfriend. Miriam, my best friend at the time and who very sadly passed away would counter write with me. We had this writing battle of who could write the most shocking and obscure poems and stories. That’s how The Rose came about.
The book itself was never meant to be read, not even by myself. The Rose lay forgotten without that perfect and unexpected ending.
Until a very special mystery person asked to read it. Then asked again. And again. When I finally relented, I hadn’t touched the manuscript in over a decade. She begged me to publish The Rose. She said:
“This is the kind of raw emotional madness the world craves in a sea of filters and masks.”
So I did.
Bold, messy, funny, heartfelt stories. Part truth, part fiction, all fire.
And honestly? Publishing it has been the most rewarding thing I’ve done. I never expected people to love it so much, and every message means the world to me.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is The Rose by Carolina Casanova about?
The Rose reads like a diary, yet carries the pace and suspense of a novel, building towards an ending few readers see coming. It blends memoir, fiction, and poetry into an emotional roller coaster. The poems have been performed on stage many times, leaving audiences laughing, shivering, blushing, and occasionally questioning my sanity.
Expect raw emotion, sharp humour, heartbreak, and more than a few spicy encounters with men. It’s written by a woman who isn’t afraid to take risks, speak her truth, or embrace her sexuality. Messy. Bold. Vulnerable. Impossible to forget.

When was The Rose by Carolina Casanova released?
II received the very first printed copy of The Rose on 30 August 2025. Holding it in my hands felt surreal. That evening, I took it to an event and read one of its poems aloud. Afterwards, people eagerly asked if they could read the book. Their enthusiasm dissolved the last of my hesitation.
On 5 September 2025, more than a decade after I had written it, The Rose was published on Amazon. That was the day I finally found the courage to share it with the world.
